The Rolli are more than a weekend.
Genoa’s appeal also depends on the chance to step inside, understand and return.
Genoa’s Strade Nuove and system of Palazzi dei Rolli have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2006. Their history brings together private wealth, public organisation and hospitality: a story about a city, rather than just a collection of buildings.
The municipal tourism portal notes that several palaces can be visited throughout the year. Museums, institutional buildings and private properties have different arrangements, however. Check the individual venue’s opening times and access conditions before visiting.
A local newspaper should look beyond an event’s peak attendance: access, clear information, connections with neighbourhoods and reasons to stay longer. A region’s appeal also grows from the everyday relationship between heritage and city life.
